Courses are designed to meet the needs of occupational health and safety professionals and those with responsibilities under OHS legislation (supervisors, managers, contractor management, joint health and safety committee members, etc.),
Mike has been teaching and facilitating courses since 1990 . An award-winning public speaker, Mike moved into higher education and ran tutorials and classes at Carleton University (Ottawa), Moscow State University, Bow Valley College (Calgary), the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (Calgary), and the University of Calgary. In recent years he has been developed and delivered a number of courses related to occupational health and safety for both private clients and Calgary-based post-secondary institutions.
Mike’s professional experience in health and safety includes a range of industries and activities, including downstream oil and gas, waste management, chemical fabrication, light manufacturing, greenfield and brownfield construction, property management, and educational institutions. He has conducted hundreds of 3rd party inspections and audits.
Heart Hat Safety is the culmination of years of teaching – in mud holes, classrooms, job shacks, and online. Unable to meet all the requests he receives to conduct face-to-face workshops, and recognizing the demand for flexible course options, Mike decided to change how he makes himself available. Heart Hat Safety is the vehicle Mike uses to develop and deliver the type of health and safety courses that his clients and students have been requesting. The online course option also permits Mike to be many places at once – at least virtually – and reaching a larger audience at a fraction of the cost (for students) and time (for Mike). Courses are available through a number of platforms including Udemy, Thinkific, and Teachable.
